Newport Parish Council meeting

The next Newport Parish Council meeting is at Newport Primary School (The Hall entrance) at 7pm on Tuesday 11th July 2023 – all village residents are welcome. Access to the meeting room is through the main gate on the Village Hall side of the school and to the rear of the building.    

Public Forum – The Public Forum will commence at 7.00pm. The period designated for public participation shall not exceed 15 minutes. Each member of the public may only speak once and for no longer than 3 minutes

East Riding Safeguarding Children Partnership and East Riding’s Safeguarding Adults Board Safeguarding Week 19th to the 23rd of June 2023

Attached is the full programme of events available across the week. We have worked with regional colleagues to provide a comprehensive mix of events and topics to choose from which are relevant to safeguarding children and families. A few events will not require booking, however the majority will require booking by opening up the link on the attached programme. This will take you through to Eventbrite for you to reserve a free place on the courses you choose.  

The road and cycling event with children and families is a free drop in and aims to offer advice including cycling safety with the hope of reducing injury and head trauma. 

We have a number of spaces still left for the Barnardo’s Parents as Safeguarding Partner’s event,  

Spaces are also available for Humberside Police online safety (POLIT) and ERVAS think family approach to safeguarding.

Beverley Armed Forces Day – Sat 1st July 2023

This year the Defence School of Transport will host Beverley Armed Forces Day on site at Normandy Barracks in Leconfield. Join us to show support for our Armed Forces community with a day filled with activities and displays for all the family on Saturday 1st July 2023 from 10am to 4pm.

Online events: You don’t have to line a parade route to join the celebration of LGBTQIA+ people during Pride Month. There are plenty of virtual Pride events that allow you to learn, listen, and laugh from wherever you are. Eventbrite have curated a lift of virtual Pride events for you to explore. You can find them here.

If you are looking for some support and a chance to connect with the community

  • There is the East Riding of Yorkshire Council’s LGBT forum which can be contacted here: lgbtforum@eastriding.gov.uk.
  • Liquid Jade café hold an LGBTQAI+ coffee morning on a Saturday morning once a month at 10:00, the dates for the rest of the year are:
    • 1st July, 5th August, 2nd September, 7th October, 4th November and 2nd December
  • LGBTQAI+ book club at Hull Central Library 24th June 11-12:30pm
  • LGBTQQAI+ Ruby union club – The Roundheads are always looking for new players. – They train Wednesday 8pm at Hull Uni Inglemire Lane (please check their Facebook page for more information)

Newport Annual Parish Meeting and Annual Meeting of the Newport Parish Council

Residents are warmly invited to attend the Annual Parish meeting to be held on Tuesday 9th May 2023 at 6pm at Newport Primary School (The Hall entrance through the green gates to the side of the school) when Village Groups will have the opportunity to share with local resident’s and the Parish Council details of the activities undertaken by their group over the last year and planned for the coming year. Information is included below with regards to the relevant legislation. This meeting only hears and meets the business of the electors.

The Annual Parish meeting is a meeting held of the electors. Local Government Act 1972 14 (1) states the Parish meeting of a parish shall assemble annually on some day between the 1st March and the 1st June. It is not a Council meeting, it does not act on issues or items of the Parish Council. Only electors on the electoral register can vote on any item at this meeting.

The Agenda has to be sent out with 7 working days’ notice is chaired by the chairman of the Parish Council. The parish having a separate Parish Council means that the chairman of the Parish Council shall preside. (Local Government Act 1972 16 & 17 (1) & (2)) A question can be asked by the voters or a poll called. (Local Government Act 1972 18 (1-6))

Following this meeting the Annual Meeting of the Parish Council will take place starting at 7pm.
