The next Newport Parish Council meeting is at Newport Primary School (The Hall entrance) at 7pm on Tuesday 13th September 2022 – all village residents are welcome. Access to the meeting room is through the main gate on the Village Hall side of the school and to the rear of the building.
On 19 January 2022, the Prime Minister confirmed the Plan B measures in place in England will come to an end. That means from 27 January 2022 there will be no requirement to wear face coverings in public indoor spaces. Although face coverings will no longer be mandated, people are still advised to wear them in enclosed or crowded spaces, particularly when meeting strangers.
Public Forum – The Public Forum will commence at 7.00pm. The period designated for public participation shall not exceed 15 minutes. Each member of the public may only speak once and for no longer than 3 minutes.
The Goole Go far are a community transport service for Goole / Howden and surrounding villages offering a Medibus door to door service taking passengers for medical appointments to Scunthorpe, Hull Royal, Castle Hill & Goole Hospitals, Allam Centre Hull & local health centres as well as Dentist & Optician appointments too. This is a vital service for those that maybe don’t drive or have trouble getting to appointments. Anyone can use the service the cost is £5 pp return (for those with a bus pass) & £10 return (without a bus pass).

Goole Go Far are also recruiting volunteer drivers to drive the Minibuses (full training will be given). They are looking for anyone who can spare a couple of mornings a week or maybe just a day every couple of weeks to join their very friendly driver team. Maybe recently retired looking to offer something back to their community. They are based in Goole down Carlisle Street.

ERYC are pleased to inform you that road improvement works are due to commence along the B1230 Main Road, Newport between Peturia Way junction (near the A63 junction) and Mill Lane junction (St Stephen’s Church). The works are scheduled to commence on Monday 11 July and will last for up to 9 weeks, weather permitting. To reduce the disruption caused to residents and businesses the works have been phased. Please see the attached phase plan and residents’ letter.
The work will consist of deep resurfacing works to the existing carriageway, patching repairs, surface water drainage improvements and minor footpath works during mainly daytime working hours (8am – 5pm) under temporary traffic lights. Initially resurfacing work will also take place between Peturia Way and Wallingfen Lane junctions on nights (between 7pm and 6am) for up to eight shifts.
To reduce the carbon footprint of this scheme, low temperature asphalt will be used, which reduces the amount of energy needed to manufacture the material, and allows roads to be reopened more quickly than traditional materials like hot asphalt.

Jenny Lamming and Alison Lister would like to thank the people of Newport for unbelievable support and kind donations for the Ukraine collection.
The amount collected was over a few days and even over the deadline. The donations went to collection points in Hook, Hull, and Sheffield. The collections all arrived safely.

Residents are warmly invited to attend the Newport Annual Parish Meeting to be held on Tuesday 10th May 2022 at Newport Primary School (The Hall entrance) at 6pm – all village residents are welcome.
Individuals from each of the Newport Community Groups will have the opportunity to share with local residents details of the activities undertaken by their group over the last year and planned for the coming year. I have included some further information below with regards to the relevant legislation. This meeting only hears and meets the business of the electors.
The Annual Parish meeting is a meeting held of the electors. Local Government Act 1972 14 (1) states the Parish meeting of a parish shall assemble annually on some day between the 1st March and the 1st June. It is not a Council meeting, it does not act on issues or items of the Parish Council. Only electors on the electoral register can vote on any item at this meeting.
The Agenda has to be sent out with 7 working days’ notice is chaired by the chairman of the Parish Council. The parish having a separate Parish Council means that the chairman of the Parish Council shall preside. (Local Government Act 1972 16 & 17 (1) & (2)) A question can be asked by the voters or a poll called. (Local Government Act 1972 18 (1-6))
