East Riding of Yorkshire Council has today agreed an initial number of cost-of-living support measures as part of the Help for Households campaign.
Utilising the council’s cost-of-living reserve, the recommendations agreed at cabinet include:
- £200,000 to install cavity wall and roof insulation for up to 1,000 homes.
- £100,000 to support the voluntary and community sector, help ensure its sustainability, develop new initiatives for social cohesion, health and wellbeing activities.
- £200,000 financial support for the East Riding Food Poverty Alliance (ERFPA) and local foodbanks.
The council has launched a Help for Households campaign to support residents in the East Riding needing financial help or struggling to manage.
A one-stop page on the council’s website has been created so residents can easily see what support they could be entitled to from the council, the Government as well as partners including the voluntary and community sector. For more information visit: eryc.link/costofliving.

Councillor Jonathan Owen, leader of East Riding of Yorkshire Council, issued the following statement at the cabinet this morning: “These three agreed measures demonstrate the council’s strong focus on community empowerment, supporting our excellent local voluntary and community teams, and helping our residents to cope with the pressures they are currently facing with the cost-of-living crisis.
“The investment we are making to help up to 1,000 homes be warm over winter with new cavity wall and roof insulation will go a long way to tackling fuel poverty and will help improve the health of those who need to keep warm, including those people who are disabled and those who feel the cold.
“Our foodbanks do an incredible job and have worked tirelessly through COVID and into this current year to keep providing low cost and free food for those most in need.
“This is the first of many planned updates about how we can help cushion our residents of the worst of the impacts from the cost-of-living inflationary pressures.”
