Local Government opportunity with Newport Parish Council

Newport Parish Council is seeking to appoint a Parish Clerk who will also be the Responsible Financial Officer and fulfill the role of Burial Clerk. This is a permanent position.

Newport is a medium sized village in the East Riding of Yorkshire with a population of around 1,500 with a mix of residential properties and a variety of amenities and businesses.  The Parish Council is seeking to appoint a motivated individual with management, financial, organisational abilities and good all-round communication skills. This part time position would ideally suit someone with previous Local Government experience, a commitment to helping the community and knowledge of the area.

The Clerk has responsibility for the administration and financial management of the Council’s activities and will be expected to provide research, support and guidance to the Council.  The successful applicant must have good IT skills, be able to work on their own initiative, be willing to acquire new skills and take a proactive interest in the wellbeing of the community.

Part of the Clerk’s duties include the management of the Newport Cemetery and some knowledge of current burial regulations would be desirable.

This is a permanent position and the hours are flexible (10-20 per week), part time and require attendance at Council Meetings that are usually held in the evening.  The role is home based and will require reliable broadband access.  An allowance for home-based working is made in addition to the salary.

Salary rates are pro-rata based on the NJC scale rates dependent on the actual hours worked.
